Step 2 · Excavate the Trench

Dig the trench along the string line, starting from the discharge end and working towards the collection point. The trench should be approximately 12-18 inches wide and at least 18-24 inches deep to accommodate the perforated pipe, gravel, and soil. Maintain the consistent 1/4 inch per foot slope throughout the trench. Use a shovel and a digging bar. Periodically check the depth and slope with your measuring tape and line level.
